UN ENVIRONMENT

The United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) is the global environmental authority and the one of the UN’s sub-organ which is responsible to set the global environmental agendas and supports compatible implementations of the local/international environmental activities and solutions. It aims to provide leadership and promote co-operation in the environmental issues by informing, supporting, inspiring and empowering the nations and communities to enhance their features of life with considering next generations and the sustainable development goals that are decided by UN. It was authorized in 1972 in order to make the world informed and find reasonable solutions for international environmental problems within the UN system. It classifies its works under the seven themes: disasters and conflicts, environmental governance, resource efficiency, climate change, chemicals and waste, environment under review and ecosystem management. It tries to provide sustainability in its missions and implementations.

 

Nowadays, forest fires and destructions are bleeding wounds of the world and they mostly set the environmental agenda of the world. In the middle of 2019, the rate of forest fires increased, and this situation was gotten reaction by young generation and non-governmental organisations whose work field is mainly about the environment. In some regions that suffer from forest fires, governments were the main actors and responsible for these problems. This issue brought lots of new political topics along and necessitated to find sustainable solutions for forest fires.

 

Agenda Item: Working on finding new precautions and strengthening the measures that are taken against possible damage of forest fires on environment with considering the recent forest fires issues
